tone is the authors way of expressing their attitude towards a subject or audience. you can identify it when the speaker uses sarcasm, a sad tone, cheerful, etc. 

conflict is something in the story hat involves a struggle between two opposing forces. you can identify this as a fight or argument as well as a hardship between two or more people in the story.
