African-Americans chose to fight for the British instead of the colonist plantation owners because they wanted to put their efforts in helping the British because if the British won the war the American-American citizens would be set free.

When the new-comers arrived, the great fishing was also one of the atractives they saw in this area. Another thing that attracted them was the possiblity to eventually use the Tumwater Falls as a source of energy (water-power)

But the main reason why this area was chosen was the great location it had, north to important trade routes. It allowed for great water access movility on a regional level all across Puget Sound and beyond. It is important to mention the importance water transportation had in those times since it was easier.
