I believe that judges should not be elected. If we were elected, it could prove to be more difficult to remain completely unbiased. If we were elected by the people, their arguments and opinions could influence decisions. Therefore, by being appointed by the president, judges can remain unbiased and completely fair, which will produce the best outcomes in the court of law.
In general, government that followed the idea of laissez-faire in economic matters would not regulate business, or ensure that there was fair competition existing in the market place, since they would be rather "hands off" in the economy.
