8p² - 16p = 10

8p² - 16p - 10 = 0      Divide through by 2

4p² - 8p - 5 = 0

Multiply first and last coefficients:  4*-5 = -20

We look for two numbers that multiply to give -20, and add to give -8

Those two numbers are 2 and -10.

Check:   2*-10 = -20         2 + -10 = -8

We replace the middle term of -8p in the quadratic expression with 2p -10p

 4p² - 8p - 5 = 0

4p² + 2p - 10p - 5 = 0

2p(2p + 1) - 5(2p + 1) = 0

(2p + 1)(2p - 5) = 0

2p + 1 = 0    or   2p + 5 = 0

2p = 0 -1              2p = 0 - 5

2p = -1                    2p = -5

p = -1/2                    p = -5/2

The solutions are p = -1/2  or  -5/2

15 POINTS - What is the value of the expression when y=2? See image.
artcher [175]

Answer:

6

Step-by-step explanation:

The given expression is;

\frac{2-y}{4+y}+\frac{3(y+2)}{y}

When y=2, the expression becomes;

\frac{2-2}{4+2}+\frac{3(2+2)}{2}

This simplifies to;

\frac{0}{6}+\frac{3(4)}{2}

0+3(2)

Multiply to get;

0+6=6

The value of the expression when y=2 is 6.

Debra's rectangular vegetable garden measures 93 yards by 12 yards.
77julia77 [94]

Answer:

126 cups of fertilizer

Step-by-step explanation:

<u><em>The complete question is</em></u>

Debra's rectangular garden measures 9 1/3 by 12 yards .a bottle of fertilizer cost $14.79 .if Debra needs to mix 1/8 cup of fertilizer with water for each square foot of her garden how many cups of fertilizer does she need?

step 1

Find the area of the rectangular garden

The area of rectangle is equal to

A=LW

we have

L=9\frac{1}{3}\ yd=9+\frac{1}{3}=\frac{9*3+1}{3}=\frac{28}{3}\ yd

W=12\ yd

substitute

A=(\frac{28}{3})12=112\ yd^2

step 2

Convert square yards to square feet

Remember that

1\ yd=3\ ft

1\ yd^2=9\ ft^2

so

112\ yd^2=112)9)=1,008\ ft^2

step 3

Find how many cups of fertilizer does she need

using proportion

\frac{(1/8)}{1}\ \frac{cups}{ft^2}=\frac{x}{1,008}\ \frac{cups}{ft^2}\\\\x=1,008/8\\\\x=126\ cups
