What is the probability that a random person who tests positive for a certain blood disease actually has the disease, if we know

that 1% of the population has the disease, that 95% of those who have the disease test positive for it, and 2% of those who do not have the disease test positive for it.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

Any medical test used to detect certain sicknesses have several probabilities associated with their results.

Positive (test is +) ⇒ P(+)

True positive (test is + and the patient is sick) ⇒ P(+ ∩ S)

False-positive (test is + but the patient is healthy) ⇒P(+ ∩ H)

Negative (test is -) ⇒ P(-)

True negative (test is - and the patient is healthy) ⇒ P(- ∩ H)

False-negative (test is - but the patient is sick) ⇒ P(- ∩ S)

The sensibility of the test is defined as the capacity of the test to detect the sickness in sick patients (true  positive rate).

⇒ P(+/S) =<u> P(+ ∩ S)  </u>

                    P(S)

The specificity of the test is the capacity of the test to have a negative result when the patients are truly  healthy (true negative rate)

⇒ P(-/H) =<u> P(- ∩ H)  </u>

                   P(H)

For this particular blood disease the following probabilities are known:

1% of the population has the disease: P(S)= 0.01

95% of those who are sick, test positive for it: P(+/S)= 0.95 (sensibility of the test)

2% of those who don't have the disease, test positive for it: P(+/H)= 0.02

The probability of a person having the blood sickness given that the test was positive is:

P(S/+)= <u> P(+ ∩ S)  </u>

                P(+)

The first step you need to calculate the intersection between both events + and S, for that you will use the information about the sickness prevalence in the population and the sensibility of the test:

P(+/S) =<u> P(+ ∩ S) </u>

                 P(S)

P(+/S)* P(S)  = P(+ ∩ S)

P(+ ∩ S) = 0.95*0.01= 0.0095

The second step is to calculate the probability of the test being positive:

P(+)=  P(+ ∩ S) +  P(+ ∩ H)

Now we know that 1% of the population has the blood sickness, wich means that 99% of the population doesn't have it, symbolically: P(H)= 0.99

Then you can clear the value of P(+ ∩ H):

P(+/H) =<u> P(+ ∩ H) </u>

                 P(H)

P(+/H)*P(H)  = P(+ ∩ H)

P(+ ∩ H) = 0.02*0.99= 0.0198

Next you can calculate P(+):

P(+)=  P(+ ∩ S) +  P(+ ∩ H)= 0.0095 + 0.0198= 0.0293

Now you can calculate the asked probability:

P(S/+)= <u> P(+ ∩ S)  </u> =<u> 0.0095 </u>= 0.32

                P(+)        0.0293

I hope it helps!

Negative 2.3 minus(4.5 minus 3 1/2
maxonik [38]
You currently have:
-2.3 -(4.5 -3.5)

To solve for this, we need to use PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract).

We have parenthesis, so work what's in parenthesis first.
4.5 - 3.5 = 1.0

You are left with:
-2.3 -1.0

When subtracting from a negative, you basically adding two positive numbers, just the sum will be negative instead of positive.

-2.3 -1.0 = -3.3

Your final answer is -3.3

I hope this helps!

I can’t figure out what the half circle means the answer options are 163,129,149 and 186
vodka [1.7K]

Answer: 129

Step-by-step explanation: First find the area of the circle. Since we know the area of a circle is πr²  (pi multiplied by the radius squared) we can find the area of the half circle. The radius is 5 (because radius is half of the diameter)

Area=3.14(5)²

       =3.14(25)

       =78.5

But since this is just a half circle, divide this by 2

That will get 39.25

Then add this to the area of the rectangle (L*W) which is 90

That will get about 129

PLZ ANSWER FAST I HAVE TIME LIMIT Find exact values for all the solutions to the equation tan theta= - sqrt3/3 for, -2<img src="
galina1969 [7]

Answer:

Well, these simulation are based on the statistics (lognormal-distributed PE, χ²-distributed s²). If you believe that only the ‘gold-standard’ of subject-simulations are valid, we can misuse the function sampleN.scABEL.sdsims() – only for the 3- and 4-period full replicates and the partial replicate:

# define a reg_const where all scaling conditions are ‘switched off’

abe    <- reg_const("USER", r_const = NA, CVswitch = Inf,

                   CVcap = Inf, pe_constr = FALSE)

CV     <- 0.4

 2x2x4  0.05  0.4  0.4   0.95    0.8   1.25          34       0.819161          0.8

Since the sample sizes obtained by all simulations match the exact method, we can be confident that it is correct. As usual with a higher number of simulations power gets closer to the exact value.
