Plants increase the viability of life on Earth. They are the bases of every food chain. They give their energy to consumers and herbivores. They produce oxygen for other living creatures. They even produce food and shelter for many of us.

The Greeks had to raise crops and animals suited to the hilly environment and the climate of hot, dry summers and wet winters. Their crops were wheat, barley, olives and grapes.
