-4(x)+16= -116

You need to figure out what 'x' equals.
To find that you need to do the problem (more or less) backwards.

 -116 - 16

You have to subtract '16' from '- 116'

-116 - 16 = -132

-132 / -4

Then you divide '-132' by '-4'

-132 / -4 = 33

x= 33

The problem would look like this:

-4(33)+16= -116

~The parenthesis around the '33' just mean you multiply it~

Kazeer [188]

Answer: She will pay $52.68, including taxes

Step-by-step explanation: One can of tennis ball is $4 and there are no discount on it. Elena bought 3 cans, so:

can = 3 x 4 = 12

One tennis racket is $43 but it has a discount of 15%:

discount = 0.15 x 43 = 6.45

total racket = 43 - 6.45 = 36.55

Elena will have to pay:

pay = 12 + 36.55 = 48.55

She will also have to pay taxes, which are 8.5% over the price she paid:

pay + tax = 48.55 x 0.085 = 4.13

total to pay = 48.55 + 4.13 = 52.68

Buying 3 can of tennins ball and one racket, Elena paid $52.68, including taxes.

A square pool has a side length of x feet.A uniform border around pool is 1 footwide.The total area of the pool and the border o
lions [1.4K]
The total area of pool and border = 361  square feet.

Length of square pool = x

Length of square pool plus border =  (x + 1 +1 ) = x + 2

There is 1 foot length on each side on the x  length.

The other length of the square pool and border =  (x + 2)

Area = (x+2)(x+2)

     (x + 2)(x +2) =  361.            Let A = x +2

        A*A = 361
            A²  = 361    Take square root of both sides
             A  = √361
               A = 19

A = x + 2 = 19
       x = 19 - 2
       x = 17

Area of square pool = x*x = 17*17 = 289

Area of the pool = 289 square feet.
