This type of government is characterized by the rule of a small number of people. How the people are chosen varies from place to
place: Some have it based on family ties, while others use wealth or military position as a determining factor. In history many Greek city-states, including Sparta, used this form of governing.
Oligarchy--this form of government means "rule by a few" and is a government where only a few representatives runs the government.
Oligarchies are found not only in politics but also in economic rule of businesses. A few people either chosen or elected to rule make the decisions for the whole government. It creates a small-scale checks and balance system but with just a few ruling, many voices are lost in this type of government.
The Greeks thought that citizens should participate in the government, but did not want to offer things such as citizenship to women, foreigners, and slaves.
