You start off with the coefficient (or number that stands alone) by doing the inverse operation, if it's being added you subtract it on both sides. Then, you do the inverse operation of the number with a variable such as multiplication or division. When doing that step you should be left with the variable and the equal sign with the final answer.

Describe the error made in subtracting the two
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

You must subtract all terms of the numerator being subtracted out, not just the first term.

The negative 2 should have been subtracted out to get a numerator of x+1-x+2

The simplified numerator of the difference should be 3, not –1.

Your solution My solution
8p (>/=) -7 8p >/= -7
8p/8 (=) -7/8 8p/8 >/= -7/8
p (=) -7/8 p >/= -7/8

The last two equation only has the equal "=" sign. The greater than ">" sign was removed.

Greater than ">" sign should not be removed because the expression is an inequality.

Inequality expressions deal with numerous numbers that can make the inequality true.

Putting only an equal sign will limit the number option into 1. It will only make half of the inequality true. P = -7/8 but it is not > -7/8.
