Low expectation is a term used to describe situations where we do not believe that we will succeed in something, or that some activity we do will not have a positive outcome just because we do not like or are not successful at it. An example of this can be seen in the question above where Lori sees no need to practice piano since she believes there is no likelihood of growing up as a pianist. Besides, she doesn't like to practice the instrument.
