if the carpenter can do the whole job in 4 hours, that means in 1 hour, it has only done 1/4 of the whole thing.

if his assistant can do the job in 6 hours, that means, in 1 hour, he has done only 1/6 of the whole job.

let's say if both of them work together, they can do the job in "t" hours, so in 1 hour alone, the carpenter has done 1/4 of it, and the assistant has done 1/6 of it, for a total of 1/t of the job.

\bf \stackrel{\textit{carpenter's rate}}{\cfrac{1}{4}}+\stackrel{\textit{assistant's rate}}{\cfrac{1}{6}}~~=~~\stackrel{\textit{total done}}{\cfrac{1}{t}}

\cfrac{3+2}{12}=\cfrac{1}{t}\implies \cfrac{5}{12}=\cfrac{1}{t}\implies 5t=12\implies t=\cfrac{12}{5}\implies \stackrel{\textit{2 hours and 24 minutes}}{t=2\frac{2}{5}}

2 hours and 24 minutes because if you choose like 24 then it would be 24/10 hours

0.01v+0.09(8000-v)=650
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

v = 875

Step-by-step explanation:

0.01v + 0.09(8000-v) = 650

Multiply the parenthesis

0.01v + 720 - .09v = 650

Combine like terms

720 - 0.08v = 650

Add 0.08v to both sides

720 = 650 + 0.08v

Subtract 650 from both sides

70 = 0.08v

Divide by 0.08 on both sides

v = 875

Hope this helps :)

Evaluate piecewise functions
Vika [28.1K]

Answer:

F(4) = 9

Step-by-step explanation:

Notice that for f(4), we need to use the function definition for the partitioned Domain that includes x = 4, and that is the expression :

f(x) = x^2-7

Therefore:

f(4) = 4^2-7 = 16-7 =9

What is the value of x in the triangle below
Musya8 [376]

Answer:

x = 71°

Step-by-step explanation:

The angles of any triangle will always amount to 180°.

Which means: (Angle of A) + (Angle of B) + (Angle of C) = 180°

Placing the known values into that equation will always let you know the third angle of any triangle.

(Angle of A) + (Angle of B) + (Angle of C) = 180°

(38°) + (71°) + (x) = 180°

109° + x = 180°

Solve for x by subtracting 109° from both sides

x = 180° - 109°

x = 71°

OR you can add the other two known angles 38° + 71° = 109°

This subtracted from the 180°

180° - 109° = 71°
