This problem started when the nation was born, because the founding fathers passed on dealing with the Slavery Issue in order to bring about independence 

<span>The leaders of the country kept punting the problem down the field (much like they are doing today with the economy) and through a series of compromises it held until 1850 and California entered the union as a non slave state (which was against the compromise) that sent the ball rolling to and it's inevitable conclusion. In October 1962, the confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union put the world on the brink of nuclear conflict. US reconnaissance planes have discovered Soviet medium-range missiles allowed in Cuba.

On October 22, President John Kennedy, in a televised address, denounced the existence of Russian missiles in Central America.

The US decreed a naval blockade against the island of Fidel Castro and gave the USSR an ultimatum. Kennedy demanded from the head of state Nikita Khruchov the immediate dismantling of the ramps, the removal of the missiles and the renunciation of the installation of new offensive weapons in Cuba. Washington also warned that if the blockade failed, the island would be invaded.
