Answer:

The value of t test statistics is -2.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a study was conducted to determine whether UH students sleep fewer than 8 hours.

The study was based on a sample of 100 students. The sample mean number of hours of sleep was 7 hours and the sample standard deviation was 5 hours.

<u><em>Let </em></u>\mu<u><em> = mean number of hours UH students sleep.</em></u>

So, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : \mu \geq 8 hours     {means that UH students sleep more than or equal to 8 hours}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : \mu < 8 hours     {means that UH students sleep fewer than 8 hours}

The test statistics that would be used here <u>One-sample t test statistics</u> as we don't know about the population standard deviation;

                         T.S. =  \frac{\bar X-\mu}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n} } }  ~ t_n_-_1

where, \bar X = sample mean number of hours of sleep = 7 hours

             s = sample standard deviation = 5 hours

            n = sample of students = 100

So, <em><u>test statistics</u></em>  =  \frac{7-8}{\frac{5}{\sqrt{100} } }  ~ t_9_9

                              =  -2

Hence, the value of t test statistics is -2.

A triangle has side lengths 32, 45 and 18. What type of triangle is it?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

Part A) Option C. obtuse

Part B) Option B. acute

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

Applying the Pythagoras Theorem

if c^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2} ----> is a right triangle

if c^{2}>a^{2}+b^{2} ----> is an obtuse triangle

if c^{2} ----> is an acute triangle

where

c is the greater side

Part A) A triangle has side lengths 32, 45 and 18. What type of triangle is it?

we have

c^{2}=45^{2}=2,025

a^{2}+b^{2}=32^{2}+18^{2}=1,348

therefore

c^{2}>a^{2}+b^{2}

Is an obtuse triangle

Part B) A triangle has side lengths 44, 36 and 30. What type of triangle is it?

we have

c^{2}=44^{2}=1,936

a^{2}+b^{2}=36^{2}+30^{2}=2,196

therefore

c^{2}< a^{2}+b^{2}

Is an acute triangle

Water samples are taken from water used for cooling as it is being discharged from a power plant into a river. It has been deter
blondinia [14]

Answer:

The system of hypothesis for this case are:

Null hypothesis: \mu =150

Alternative hypothesis: \mu >150

A type of error I for this case would be reject the null hypothesis that the true mean is equal than 150 when actually is not true.

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

A hypothesis is defined as "a speculation or theory based on insufficient evidence that lends itself to further testing and experimentation. With further testing, a hypothesis can usually be proven true or false".

The null hypothesis is defined as "a hypothesis that says there is no statistical significance between the two variables in the hypothesis. It is the hypothesis that the researcher is trying to disprove".

The alternative hypothesis is "just the inverse, or opposite, of the null hypothesis. It is the hypothesis that researcher is trying to prove".

Type I error, also known as a “false positive” is the error of rejecting a null  hypothesis when it is actually true. Can be interpreted as the error of no reject an  alternative hypothesis when the results can be  attributed not to the reality.

Type II error, also known as a "false negative" is the error of not rejecting a null  hypothesis when the alternative hypothesis is the true. Can be interpreted as the error of failing to accept an alternative hypothesis when we don't have enough statistical power.

Solution to the problem

The system of hypothesis for this case are:

Null hypothesis: \mu =150

Alternative hypothesis: \mu >150

A type of error I for this case would be reject the null hypothesis that the true mean is equal than 150 when actually is not true.

If t varies inversely as a and t= 2 when a = -4, what is t when a = 1/3?
bezimeni [28]

Answer:

t = - 24

Step-by-step explanation:

Given t varies inversely as a then the equation relating them is

t = \frac{k}{a} ← k is the constant of variation

To find k use the condition t = 2 when a = - 4

2 = \frac{k}{-4} ( multiply both sides by - 4 )

- 8 = k

t = \frac{-8}{a} ← equation of variation

When a = \frac{1}{3} , then

t = \frac{-8}{\frac{1}{3} } = - 24
