Carey solves the equation 4(2x-1)+5=3+2(x+1) by applying the distributive property on both sides of the equation. The result is

8x-4+5=3+2x+2 . Carey then wants to combine like terms. Which are the terms Carey should combine? 8x + 2x –4 + 5 + 3 + 2 –4 + 5 and 3 + 2 4 + 5 and 3 + 2 Mark this and return

Answer:

Given the equation: 4(2x-1)+5 = 3+2(x+1)                    .....[1]

Distributive property states that when a number is multiplied by the sum of two numbers, then the first number can be distributed to both of those numbers and multiplied by each of them separately.

i.e, a\cdot (b+c) = a\cdot b+ a\cdot c

Applying distributive property, in [1]we get;

4 \cdot(2x) -4 \cdot 1 + 5 = 3 +2 \cdot x + 2\cdot 1

Simplify:

8x -4 + 5 = 3 + 2x + 2          .....[2]

Like terms are those terms that have the same variables and powers

Combine like terms on each side in equation [2];

8x +(-4+5) = (3+2) +2x

Simplify:

8x + 1 =5 + 2x

The terms which Carey combine are; -4 +5 and 3 + 2

Answer:

the answer is d.

Step-by-step explanation:

D} the independent variable is cows, and the dependent variable is milk.

The independent variable is cows, and the dependent variable is milk.

The value of the independent variable, often denoted by x, does not depend on the value of another variable. The value of the dependent variable, often denoted by y, depends on the value of the independent variable.

At your school, the building is 20 feet tall, a tree's height is 252 inches, and the flagpole is 6 yards high. Which of the thre
timurjin [86]
First, all the heights have to be converted to similar units, say feet.

Therefore,
Building= 20 feet
Tree = 252*0.083333 = 21 feet
Flagpole = 6*3 = 18 feet

The tallest of the three is the tree and thus should cast the longest shadow. However, it should be noted that at exactly noon when the sun is overhead, all the three will have equal length of shadow (that is, 0 feet long).

The diagram shows the cross-section of a wall of a cinema. It has to be painted. Work out the area that needs to be painted.
mestny [16]

Answer:

Area = 370 m²

Cost to paint = £105

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of the wall of a cinema hall = Area of a trapezoid (1)+ Area of a rectangle (2) + Area of a trapezoid (3)

Area of a trapezoid = \frac{1}{2}(b_1+b_2)h

where b_1 and b_2 are the parallel sides and h is the distance between these sides.

Area of trapezoid (1) = \frac{1}{2}(11+12)\times 6

                                  = 69 m²

Area of the rectangle (2) = Length × Width

                                         = 12 × 15

                                         = 180 m²

Area of the trapezoid (3) = \frac{1}{2}(12+10)\times 11

                                         = 121 m²

Now area of the wall = 69 + 180 + 121

                                   = 370 m²

One tin covers the area = 25 m²

Number of tins required to paint the wall = \frac{\text{Total area}}{\text{Area covered by one tin}}

= \frac{370}{25}

= 14.8

Therefore, number of tins to be purchased = 15

Cost to paint the complete wall = 15 × £7

                                                       = £105
