Let the distance to his office be x, then
On monday, speed = x/20 miles per minutes = 3x miles per hour
On tuesday, speed = (3x + 15) miles per hour
Time = distance / speed
(20 - 6)/60 hours = x/(3x + 15) hours
7/30 = x/(3x + 15)
7(3x + 15) = 30x
21x + 105 = 30x
30x - 21x = 105
9x = 105
x = 105/9 = 11.7 miles

Therfore he travels an average of 11.7 miles to work.

Dad’s truck is 15 feet long. The trailer it tows is 40% longer the truck. How long the trailer?
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]

Answer:

21 Feet Long

Step-by-step explanation:

You just reverse how you find a percentage.

1) 40 / 100 = .40

2) .40 * 15 = 6

3) 6 + 15 = 21

I did it this way because I need to find what 40% is to 15. But the trailer isn't 40% of the truck, it's 40% longer than the truck. So, we must add those 2 numbers together getting 21 Ft.
