In Act 1 Scene 1 of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Romeo tells his cousin Benvolio that he is madly in love with Rosaline, but that she does not love him back.

Benvolio sets out to help Romeo forget about Rosalind. When, in Scene 2, they encounter Peter, a Capulet servant who was given a list of people to invite to the feast despite not being able to read, Romeo reads the list outloud and finds out Rosalind is attending the party.

Benvolio insists they go to the party so Romeo can find another woman, but in reality, Romeo only accepts because Rosalind will be there.
