A culture of bacteria enters the exponential growth phase with 4,596 cells per mL. After 15 hours, there are 206,104,972 cells p

er mL. What is the instantaneous growth rate constant, with units of 1/hours, for this culture? Express your answer as an exponent rounded to two decimal places. For example 0.66666 would be entered as 6.67E-1

Answer:

The Growth rate constant (k) will be = 5.16 \times 10^-03  per minute or 0.308  per hour.

Explanation:

Given,

N₀ = 4596 cells / ml

N = 206104972 cells / ml

t = 15 hours

We know that,

                  n = 3.3 \times log  \frac {b}{B}

Where,

n = no. of generation during the period of exponential growth.

∴    n = 3.3 \times log  \frac {b}{B}

       = 3.3 \times log \frac {206104972} {4596}

       = 3.3 × 44844.42

∴   n  = 15.350

We know that,

                 g = \frac {t} {n}

Where,

g =  generation time

t = duration of exponential growth

∴    g = \frac {t} {n}                             or                ∴    g = \frac {t} {n}

         =  \frac {15 \times 60} {15.350}                                               = 15 / 15.350

          = 900 / 15.350                           ∴  g  = 0.977 hours

∴      g  = 58.63 minutes

We know that,

               k = 0.301 / g

Where,   k = specific growth rate

∴    k = 0.301 / g                       or                      ∴   k = 0.301 / g

           = 0.301 / 58.63                                            = 0.301 / 0.977

∴      k   = 5.16 \times 10^-03  per minutes             ∴  k   = 0.308 per hour

Which of the following statements about the products of glycolysis is TRUE?
lana66690 [7]
<span>You are likely talking about aerobic respiration rather then just glycolysis based on the options: The third option seems best, pyruvate is heavily oxidized during the Kreb's cycle and removed as CO2.

Wrong options
Option1- FADH2 is also another highly energetic molecule produced during

Option2- oxidation of pyruvate is a highly directional process and can be considered irreversible in the cell

Option4- Aerobic respiration RELEASES energy from pyruvate and the into NADH/FADH which is then captured by the electron transport chain. An exergonic rxn would take in energy and would not happen spontaneously

This can be looked from different perspectives, but let me know if my answer made sense. </span>

Inhibition of transcription by lac repressor involves its binding to the promoter
viktelen [127]
Answer:

                  The correct option is b (false).

Explanation:

                    As is is cleared from the figure that when lactose is absent, the lac repressor binds tightly to the operator. It gets in RNA polymerase's way and prevent transcription.

After a rare fur color mutation occurred, a mice population evolved to have this new coat coloration (i.e. over many generations
julia-pushkina [17]

Answer:

predation

Explanation:

If the first coat color is black for example, the mice will be able to hide away in a dark area or corner, they will also be able to move around at night almost undetected. Changes in environment, such as development and introduction of street lighting may cause these mice to be easily seen by predators. These mice will quickly be eaten by predators now that they are accessible. On the other hand mice that have a different color such as white or grey will be able to blend in better with the new surroundings. These mice will pass along this trait to their progeny and the new coat color will proliferate.
