Realism is a term that, in addition to being used to denominate certain reactive artistic movements against romanticism in literature (literature of realism) or painting (painting of realism) - both originated in mid-nineteenth-century France and continued in literary naturalism and pictorial posterior-; It has a generic dimension that allows to identify an artistic realism as an aesthetic or art theory position that identifies art and reality.
This position is expressed in different ways of representing reality or nature in an imitative way (mimesis), which is why it is also called naturalism (in an equivocal way with other uses of naturalism in art)
