He did not share interest in painting outdoor light effects.

Further Explanation:

Edgar Degas was an artist from French origin and he was very famous for his paintings, sculptures and drawings. He is mostly known for the subject of dance as majority of his artworks depict dancers and he is also regarded as one of the founders of impressionism. But he never liked people calling him impressionist as he always preferred being called as realist.

Impressionism was originated in the year 1860 and from then on wards, it grew. The impressionists used to do their work with the use of bright dazzling colors and his artwork majorly concentrated on the effects of light because he hoped that his work will infuse the scenes with immediacy. His style also showcased his deep interest and respect for the old masters and he was very fond of collecting Japanese prints such as Daumier and Gavarni.

Degas’ work is different from the other Impressionists in term of the depicted light on his impressionism paintings.
Other impressionism usually portrayed natural light on their paintings of movement. However, Edgar Degas focused on the artificial light to portrayed in his paintings. This created a significant difference between their works.

I believe the correct answer is “The Transfiguration Mosaic at Sant'Apollinare in Classe” 6th century (year 549)

“The Transfiguration Mosaic at Sant'Apollinare in Classe” is a mosaic which represents the decoration of the apse of Basilica of Sant' Apollinare in Classe, dating to 6th century. The mosaic can be divided into two parts:

1. Crux Gemmata (jeweled cross with engraved picture of transfigured Jesus Christ and his followers)

2. Saint Apollinaris praying to the God in a green valley with rocks, bush, plants and birds.

This artwork has many Biblical symbols. It represents the transfiguration of Jesus Christ, a complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful or spiritual state, under the Hand of God. On the sides of the arch are shown palms and under them are the archangels Michael and Gabriel. These symbols represent justice. Under them, figure of Saint Apollinaris is portrayed in the act of praying God to give grace to his faithful. He is surrounded by 12 white lambs which symbolize 12 Apostles.

In Early Byzantine art, every color had a symbolic meaning complementing the religious scene. In this mosaic the colors used are: gold (representing the radiance of God), red (representing love), green (the color of nature, life) and blue (everlasting world, heaven).
