<u>Edgar Degas was an artist from French origin and he was very famous for his paintings, sculptures and drawings.</u> He is mostly known for the subject of dance as majority of his artworks depict dancers and he is also regarded as one of the founders of impressionism. But he never liked people calling him impressionist as he always preferred being called as realist.  

Impressionism was originated in the year 1860 and from then on wards, it grew. The impressionists used to do their work with the use of bright dazzling colors and his artwork majorly concentrated on the effects of light because he hoped that his work will infuse the scenes with immediacy. <u>His style also showcased his deep interest and respect for the old masters and he was very fond of collecting Japanese prints such as Daumier and Gavarni. </u>

Degas’ work is different from the other Impressionists in term of the depicted light on his impressionism paintings. 
Other impressionism usually portrayed natural light on their paintings of movement. However, Edgar Degas focused on the artificial light to portrayed in his paintings. This created a significant difference between their works.
