Conferences that bring together the main winning powers of World War II, at the end of the conflict, to redraw the world political map and the areas of influence of each one.

The first is held from February 4 to 11, 1945, in Yalta, in the Crimean region (Ukraine), with the participation of Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Franklin Roosevelt, President of the United States (USA), and Josef Stálin, ruler of the then Soviet Union (USSR).

The second, between July 17 and August 2, 1945, takes place in Potsdam, just outside Berlin, Germany, bringing together Stalin, Clement Attlee, from the United Kingdom, and the new American president, Harry Truman.

In Yalta, issues such as the treatment to be given to Germany after the war, including its division into occupation zones and the elimination of its war industry, and the persecution of war criminals are addressed. It is also decided to create the Polish state and the foundations for the creation of the United Nations are laid.

The USSR agrees to fight Japan after Germany's final defeat, receiving areas of occupation in Eastern Europe and Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in return.

What did Truman tell MacArthur not to do and why?
erastova [34]

Answer: General MacArthur did not think a ceasefire was an appropriate solution. The two men clashed. For Truman.

MacArthur's support among right-wing Republicans began to sag after a Senate committee heard secret testimony from his superiors, including Generals George Marshall and Omar Bradley, that disputed the viability of MacArthur's plan for a total war and revealed the United States lacked the military capability at the time.
