Explain briefly what the El Niño Northern Oscillation (ENSO) is and how it would affect the following locations: Piura, Peru; Po
inna [77]

Answer and Explanation:

The ENSO phenomenon is the result of a complex system of climatic oscillations between the ocean and the atmosphere. It is considered to be dominant in the global climate system. This phenomenon is associated with important perturbations in the normal pluvial regimens in the tropics, resulting in dry seasons in areas where usually rains, and rainy seasons in areas that are usually desertic.

Under normal conditions, warm water and air masses move westward, which makes it possible for cold water to ascend in a process known as upwelling. This upwelling occurs in South America´s coasts, providing nutrients from the bottom to the animals, especially fishes -which favors fisheries activities-. Humidity goes straight to the west precipitating in Indochina and North Australia, among other places.

Under El Niño conditions, a tropical stream, which is normally small, acquires strength while the opposite streams debilitate. This avoids warm water to go eastward, remaining in South America´s coasts, which produces unusual precipitations in areas such as Chile´s coasts -followed by floral bloom in Atacama desert-, and fewer precipitations in Eastsouth Asia and North Australia. Upwelling does not occur on the coasts of South America, so there is a fishery crisis because nutrients from the bottom do no ascend and fish populations remain equal or smaller. In areas such as<u> </u><u>Piura, Perú</u>, during el Niño events, temperatures use to rise in the coastal areas and precipitation also increase.  <u>Nueva Guinea</u>, on the other hand, seems to one of the most affected areas in Eastsouth Asia under the influence of El Niño event. Rainfall during ENSO drops below the average, affecting crops and livestock.

ENSO also provokes changes in general extratropical circulation contributing to some anomalous situation in the northern hemisphere weather during winter, including severe precipitations and cooler temperatures in the southeast USA, north of Mexico, Gulf of Mexico, Strait of Florida and western Cuba.

Disease that is characterized as having lack of energy and protein is called?
Anettt [7]

Answer:

Sounds closest to:  Kwashiorkor

Explanation:

Kwashiorkor is a disease brought on by severe protein malnourishment. In Kwashiorkor, extended breastfeeding and late, insufficient weaning lead to low calorie intakes but significantly superior biological value. As a result, a kid with kwashiorkor will likely experience compromised organ function and development. Sudden outbreaks of diseases like the measles, gastroenteritis, or pneumonia exacerbate the issue by increasing needs while maintaining low intakes. The kid may exhibit oedema of the face and lower limbs, failure to grow, anorexia, diarrhea, lethargy, dermatosis, flaky-looking skin, scant, soft, and thin hair, angular stomatitis, cheilosis, and anemia as a result of this scenario.

This is a bit similar to Marasmus.

But there is a difference.

But ⇒ <em>how does kwashiorkor and marasmus differ?</em>

<em />

Kwashiorkor is predominantly a protein shortage, despite adequate calorie intake. When a youngster is weaned off of protein-rich breast milk, it frequently happens. The patient will show signs of oedema, an enlarged abdomen, and other conditions.

Marasmus is a total energy shortage that causes a body weight that is at least 60% below normal. The victim will only be malnourished.

Guinea Pigs can either have black fur (B) or white fur (b) and rough textured coats (R) or smooth textured coats (r).
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

The answers are explained below:

  1. Black rough fur - \frac{1}{2}=\frac{8}{16}.
  2. Black smooth fur - \frac{1}{2}=\frac{8}{16}.
  3. White rough fur - \frac{0}{16}.
  4. white smooth fur -\frac{0}{16}

Explanation:

  • The genotype of homozygous black fur and smooth texture: BBrr.
  • The gametes produced are : Br
  • The genotype of white and  heterozygous for rough texture: bbRr
  • The gametes produced are : bR and br.
  • The cross,

                                                           (B/R)   (B/S)

  • In the brackets (),
  1. B - Black.
  2. R - Rough.
  3. S -Smooth.
  • The cross can develop two types of offspring, that is,
  1. Black and Rough (BbRr) - 1.
  2. Black and smooth  (Bbrr)- 1.
  • The answers:
  1. Black rough fur - \frac{1}{2}=\frac{8}{16}.
  2. Black smooth fur - \frac{1}{2}=\frac{8}{16}.
  3. White rough fur - \frac{0}{16}.
  4. white smooth fur -\frac{0}{16}
