Then Watergate happened and he, just like millions of Americans, saw and listened to president Nixon lying and obstructing justice after having abused his power to spy on his political rivals. The Watergate scandal erosioned the credibility of the political system and of the institution of the presidency. So, Ralph became dissapointed.
