Answer:

8\pi\text{ square cm}

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, we know that,

The surface area of a cylinder having both ends in both sides,

S=2\pi rh

Where,

r = radius,

h = height,

Given,

Diameter of the sphere = 4 cm,

So, by using Pythagoras theorem,

4^2 = (2r)^2 + h^2   ( see in the below diagram ),

16 = 4r^2 + h^2

16 - 4r^2 = h^2

\implies h=\sqrt{16-4r^2}

Thus, the surface area of the cylinder,

S=2\pi r(\sqrt{16-4r^2})

Differentiating with respect to r,

\frac{dS}{dr}=2\pi(r\times \frac{1}{2\sqrt{16-4r^2}}\times -8r + \sqrt{16-4r^2})

=2\pi(\frac{-4r^2+16-4r^2}{\sqrt{16-4r^2}})

=2\pi(\frac{-8r^2+16}{\sqrt{16-4r^2}})

Again differentiating with respect to r,

\frac{d^2S}{dt^2}=2\pi(\frac{\sqrt{16-4r^2}\times -16r + (-8r^2+16)\times \frac{1}{2\sqrt{16-4r^2}}\times -8r}{16-4r^2})

For maximum or minimum,

\frac{dS}{dt}=0

2\pi(\frac{-8r^2+16}{\sqrt{16-4r^2}})=0

-8r^2 + 16 = 0

8r^2 = 16

r^2 = 2

\implies r = \sqrt{2}

Since, for r = √2,

\frac{d^2S}{dt^2}=negative

Hence, the surface area is maximum if r = √2,

And, maximum surface area,

S = 2\pi (\sqrt{2})(\sqrt{16-8})

=2\pi (\sqrt{2})(\sqrt{8})

=2\pi \sqrt{16}

=8\pi\text{ square cm}

OX and OY are two straight lines which intersect at an acute angle of 60°. OX = 4.5cm and OY = 5cm . The point M is on OX such t
Neko [114]

Therefore the point P is at 3.46 cm from O and it lies on the angle bisector of ∠XOY

<h3>What is an Angle Bisector ?</h3>

The ray that bisects the angle into half is called Angle Bisector.

It is given that ∠XOY = 60 degree

the length of OX = 4.5 cm

OY =5 cm

The point M is on OX such that

OM = 2 MX

so The M is at 3 cm from O

The point P lies in the acute angle such that the distance between point P and OX and OY is always same and at 3 cm from M

According to the angle bisector theorem converse states that if a point is in the interior of an angle and is at equal distance from the sides  then it lies on the bisector of that angle.

As it can be seen from the image that a point equidistant from the rays , at 3 cm from M will be at

By Pythagoras Theorem

3² +3² = OP²

OP = 2\sqrt{3} = 3.46 cm from O

Henry has x blue pens. Rachel has $5$ blue pens and $y$ black pens. Jake has $3$ times the total number of pens Henry and Rachel
Troyanec [42]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Henry X blue

Rachel 5 blue and Y black

Jack 3 times the total of pens ( blue & black)

So

X + 5 + Y for Henry and Rachel

Jack : 3( X + 5 + Y)

Jack has 3X + 15 + 3Y.

Pens of jack 3X + 15 Blue & 3Y black.
