Hello Swagger, so to understand how to get the right answer to this question, you must know what trench warfare is. Now trench warfare is basically a type of combat in which opposing troops fight from trenches facing each other. Now we can obviously eliminate A and B because that has nothing to do with hiding or being in a trench. Its the same reason why D isn't the answer as well.
