One reason that cells undergo mitosis is because the nucleus needs to divide
in order to reproduce cells. Another reason is that in order to grow or repair cells they need to undergo mitosis. If a cell is damaged it must reproduce in order to replace itself. Mitosis is used to grow and repair damaged and dying
tissue.
