Study the population growth curve of three species of squirrels on an island. Red squirrels and gray squirrels have been the nat

ive species on the island for the past 1,000 years. The black squirrel is an invasive species. Invasive species aren’t native to the ecosystem. They move into an ecosystem because of natural changes or human intervention. In 2005, black squirrels entered this island. Red squirrels and black squirrels have identical food requirements, but gray squirrels eat different kinds of food. What’s the plausible reason for the population change?

A.

The red squirrel has no predators, and the black squirrel has many predators.

B.

The gray squirrel competes with the black squirrel for food.

C.

The black squirrel has no predators, and the red squirrel faces higher competition for resources.

D.

The black squirrel has many predators and faces tougher competition for resources.

Answer:

Option C, The black squirrel has no predators, and the red squirrel faces higher competition for resources.

Explanation:

Here , the black squirrel  is an invasive species and it competes with red squirrel for food as they rely on the same food unlike the gray squirrel.

As shown in the graph, the black squirrel's population has increased at a very fast rate as compared to the population of grey and red squirrel.

Thus, it can be concluded that there are no predators for black squirrel thereby contributing to it high growth. Also the red squirrel face tough competition with the black squirrel for food due to which population of red squirrel is declining.

Hence, option C is correct.

A table with four organisms and their primary role in an ecosystem is shown.
Otrada [13]

Answer:Each and every one of us have several roles. Organisms in a community play other roles too. An organism's role within an ecosystem depends on how it earn its nutrients. Organisms collect their nutrients in very different actions, so they have different roles in an ecosystem.

Explanation:

The food chain describes who eats whom in the wild. Every living thing—from one-celled algae to giant blue whales—needs food to survive. Each food chain is a possible pathway that energy and nutrients can follow through the ecosystem.

For example, grass produces its own food from sunlight. A rabbit eats the grass. A fox eats the rabbit. When the fox dies, bacteria break down its body, returning it to the soil where it provides nutrients for plants like grass.

Of course, many different animals eat grass, and rabbits can eat other plants besides grass. Foxes, in turn, can eat many types of animals and plants. Each of these living things can be a part of multiple food chains. All of the interconnected and overlapping food chains in an ecosystem make up a food web.

Carrying capacity is Group of answer choices seldom reached by marine producers and consumers because of the vast resources of t
-Dominant- [34]

Answer:

the maximum population size that a particular environment can support.

Explanation:

A population can be defined as the total number of living organisms living together in a particular place and sharing certain characteristics in common.

Generally, these populations may be divided into a fraction of the population (subpopulation) based on certain factors and reasons.

Population regulation can be defined as a biological process that balances limiting factors affecting the growth of a population based on density. The factors that regulate the growth of a population are divided into two (2) main categories and these includes;

I. Density-independent factors.

II. Density-dependent factors.

Density-dependent are regulating factors such as predation, diseases, and competition that affect the size of the population of living organisms through decreasing or increasing mortality and birth rate.

Furthermore, density-independent factors do not have an increasingly greater effect as a population's density increases. Thus, its effect are reduced as a population's density increases in size.

Carrying capacity is the maximum population size that a particular environment can support. The carrying capacity of an environment is denoted by the letter k.
