weqwewe [10]

Circle the letter of the basic force that drives plate tectonics.
kirill115 [55]

The basic force that drives plate tectonics are the convection currents.

Explanation:

The surface of Earth is cracked and divided into numerous tectonic plates. Some tectonic plates are very large, thus considered as major plates, while some are significantly smaller. There is constant motion of the tectonic plates, and they constantly move in some direction, causing the occurrence of numerous geological activities.

The tectonic plates don't just move on their own, but there is a driving force. That driving force comes from below them, from the mantle layer, in the form of the convection currents. The convection currents basically represent a circular motion (down-up), where the cooler and denser rocks sinks, while the hot and less dense ones go up, making enormous pressure on the surface.

Some of the major tectonic plates are:

  • Eurasian
  • North American
  • African
  • Pacific etc.

Some of the smaller tectonic plates are:

  • Arabian
  • Cocos
  • Philippine
  • Juan de Fuca etc.
