It was here that she attended school and also got inspired for her frontier novels. Her earliest novel were a product of her life and experiences in the western state of Nebraska. Living in the frontier along with the European- Americans, immigrants and native Americans, she got to experience their cultures which form the basis of majority of her literary works.
