This cartoon from the campaign of 1896 shows William Jennings Bryan on a whistle-stop tour of the country. Jour
Alexxandr [17]

This cartoon of William Jennings Byran shows:

  • Disrespect for Bryan's argument that farmers are businessmen
  • That the cartoonist thinks that Bryan's platform will appeal only to farmers

William Jennings Byran was a 3 time Democratic candidate for President from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. His proposed policies drew a lot of support from farmers and common people.

Mr. Bryan argued that farmers were businessmen who were capable of making informed decisions. This cartoon comes against that by:

  • Showing farmers climbing electric/ telegraph poles which is not safe
  • Showing them absorbing messages from Bryan that are painted as ineffective

The cartoon also shows that only farmers are excited by Mr. Bryan's proposals.

In conclusion, the cartoon aims to mock William Jennings Bryan for his support base of farmers.

Explanation:Nazis believed that Germans were biologically superior (<em>Arian race</em>) destined to obtain (<em>Lebensraum</em>).

This encouraged a violent and expansive foreign policy, in pursuit of the land in the East of Europe, where Slavic people habited. The policy was further directed at the Soviet Union at large since it was the natural rival of Germany.

Lebensraum was a concept to justify fierce and quick expansion by all means so that German population would eventually inhabit a "continent" where Aryans would live and develop as they were "genetically entitled" to live in pursuit of an inevitable process of evolution of races.
