In <em>American Born Chinese</em>, we see Monkey trapped under a pile of rocks. This was done unto him by Tze-Yo-Tzuh, who trapped him there for five hundred years. However, it is thanks to his meeting with Wong Lai-Tsao that he is able to liberate himself. He does so by changing back into his monkey form. From this point on, Monkey transforms into a better, wiser and kinder Monkey.
