we can call guest x

1/3x+5/12x+69=total guests at the wedding

if we multiply 1/3 by 4 we get 4/12. we can add 4/12 to 5/12 to get 9/12 which can be reduces to 3/4. that means the vegetarian guests make up 1/4 of the wedding. if 69 is 1/4, then we have all the information we need to solve this

25%       69                                                                                                                   -----        ------                                                                                                                       100%        ?

we are solving for the question mark. this is just a diagram. we know 25% of the 100% of the guest and we know that we have 69 of the however many guest. multiply 100 by 69

100x69=6900

now divide 6900 by 25

6900/25=276 guests at the wedding

How do you write the sum of one-sixth of n and one-fifth of g
kati45 [8]

Answer: \frac{n}{6}+\frac{g}{5}

Step-by-step explanation:

One-sixth of n is n/6.

One-fifth of g is g/5.

The sum means to add, so the expression is \frac{n}{6}+\frac{g}{5}.

Divide 36 books into two groups so the ratio is 5 to 7. (Use the double number line strategy)
lutik1710 [3]

A ratio of 5:7 means out of 12 books, 5 are in one category and 7 are in another. (The “category” isn’t specified in this problem.)

So here we’re STARTING with 36 books; we want to find a ratio that is equal to 5:7 and adds up to 36. Well 36 = 3(12), and so if we multiply each number in the ratio by 3 as well, we might get what we want. Doing that gives us 15:21, which adds up to 36 and is equal to 5:7. Boom, that’s the answer.

P.S. Here’s a question you can think about: why do ratios stay the same when you multiply each number by the same amount? (For example, why is 3:1 the same as 6:2?)
