Central Asia has a drier climate, desert in many parts, and has extreme hot and cold weather. The major difference is that East Asia is on the Eastern coast of the Pacific Ocean, whereas Central Asia is essentially land-locked with no ocean bordering it.

Physical Geography. East Asia is surrounded by a series of mountain ranges in the west, Mongolia and Russia in the north, and Southeast Asia to the south. The Himalayas border Tibet and Nepal; the Karakoram Ranges, Pamirs, and the Tian Shan Mountains shadow Central Asia; and the Altay Mountains are next to Russia.
