The adaptation that helped plants survive on land are vascular systems. This means that when plants became vascular plants, they were able to start living on land because the elements of the vascular system helped them take water and nutrients from the soil, and in return emit oxygen into the atmosphere around them.

Water also moves through the living organisms in an ecosystem. Plants soak up large amounts of water through their roots. The water then moves up the plant and evaporates from the leaves in a process called transpiration. The process of transpiration, like evaporation, returns water back into the atmosphere.

Answer: The basic unit of structure and function is the CELL.

Explanation: All living organisms are made up of cells. Each cell is specialized in it's structure to support the function it is intended for. Groups of specialized cells make up tissue (also specialized for a particular function), this group of specialized tissue makes up an organ, which forms part of a system, and then part of the organism as a whole.
