La roca ardiente en el centro de la tierra se llama “magma”. En una erupción volcánica, las rocas del interior de la tierra se frotan unas con otras producto del movimiento de las placas tectónicas, alcanzando tan alta temperatura que se funden; entonces ese magma o roca fundida sube por la chimenea del volcán hacia el exterior, en cuyo cráter se desborda, convirtiéndose en lava. La temperatura de la lava acercándose a la superficie de la tierra va desde los 700 a los 1200º Celcios. La lava es tan poderosa que al desbordarse un volcán, larga cenizas y gases . El paisaje puede llegar a ser completamente transformado. Va formando ríos y cuevas que más tarde se solidifican.
