Africa has tried many efforts to try and protect the elephants from poachers.(people illegally hunting for their ivory tusks) Some efforts go un-noticed. People have set up sanctuaries to help protect the elephants. when poachers get ivory from an elephant, they usually kill the elephant in the process.(It's usually easier.) Certain types of elephants are now endangered because of the amount of poachers killing them.
