erastovalidia [21]

Hi Anna,

1. Government has been defined as “the institution created by a society to create and enforce public policies”. It has also been defined as “a group of people who have the power to make and enforce laws.” Which definitions better expresses what your understanding of government is? Explain your choice. If you find both definitions inadequate, write your own, and explain it.

Answer - I think that both defintions really explain what a government is because the first definition is true because it is true when is says "create and enforce public policies". And the second definition is always correct because for example there are many people in cogress that in enforce these policies.

2.  List five purposes of government. Provide an example of government either real or fictional, fulfilling each.

  1. Protecting the Rights - Which means protecting the rights of voting and the freedom of speech.
  2. Promoting the Rule of Law - Enforcing laws that they think are appropiate for the current situtation.
  3. Preparing for Common Defense - To maintain a strong military force.
  4. Supporting the Economic System - Providing trade with other countries and keeping all the taxes reasonable for people to pay.
  5. Providing Public Services - For Example, building roads and stores for people to go to.

3. What is power? Why is understanding power essential to understanding government?

Answer - Power is the will to influence the people's behavior in various ways. It is essential to understand what power is to mean what the government does and how it functions.

4. Write a paragraph that compares and contrasts two types of government. Choose two types that both fall under the same category of government classification (i.e., by who has the power, by how much power the government has, by where the power is located, or by how the power is divided between branches).

Answer - 2 different types of a government is for example monarchy and democracy. Democracy is what we use in the U.S. and monarchy is something used in contries that have a King Or Queen. The major difference is the democracy has a president that only lasts 8 years the max. A monarchy is ruling a country as ong until that king or queen dies. The reason we don't use monarch because the people can easily overthrow the royal family. Democracy the president is dictated to stay unless they resign or don't go to anymore elections.

Hope This helps!
