The answer is representative democracy, which is the exercise of political power by the electoral population made indirectly (as opposed to direct democracy), but through its representatives, appointed by them, with a mandate to act on their behalf and by their authority, that is, legitimized by popular sovereignty.
The Magna Carta limited the power of the king, and gave more rights to the citizens, so this allowed people to have experience with more freedom, and want to achieve it.
