How dose a change in the sequence of nucleotides in a strand of DNA might cause a protein to malfunction

Biology

Answer:

By central dogma, we know that primary structure of the protein is synthesized on the basis of nucleotide sequence of the DNA.

First, the nucleotide sequence is decoded into mRNA which then provides the codon sequence which finally decide the sequence of amino acids in any polypeptide chains.

This amino acid sequence plays an important role in determining the inter and intra polypeptide chain interactions which determine the shape of the protein.

The shape or three dimensional structure of a protein is very important for its proper functioning.

Now, change in nucleotide sequence of the DNA can alter the amino acid sequence of the polypeptide chain which may alter the interactions required for proper folding of the protein. Thus it can result into the formation of mal-functional or non-functional protein.

For example, change in only one nucleotide in DNA leads to the development  of sickle cell anemia due to the change in the shape of protein.

All vertebrates have general sensors in their skin for touch pressure and pain these are called
padilas [110]

The correct answer is mechanoreceptors.

The mechanoreceptors refer to the receptors, which instructs the CNS about the sensations of vibration, touch, and skin tension. They are sensitive to the mechanical distortions of the skin stimulated by coming in exposure with the objects.

They are situated at the origin of the exteroreceptive sensitivity epicritic touch and permits the analysis and exploration of the external surrounding. They possess high sensitivity and are associated with the fast-conductive large sized myelinated fibers.

What is the purpose of chloroplasts?
katrin2010 [14]

Answer:

Chloroplasts are the food producers of the cell. They are only found in plant cells and some protists. Animal cells do not have chloroplasts. Every green plant you see is working to convert the energy of the sun into sugars. Plants are the basis of all life on Earth. They create sugars, and the byproduct of that process is the oxygen that we breathe. That process happens in the chloroplast. Mitochondria work in the opposite direction and break down the sugars and nutrients that the cell receives.

7. Once the RNA is made, can it immediately leave the nucleus? Explain.
slava [35]

Answer:regulation of RNA processing When a eukaryotic gene is transcribed in the nucleus.

Explanation:

the primary transcript (freshly made RNA molecule) isn't yet considered a messenger RNA. ... The pre-mRNA has to go through some modifications to become a mature mRNA molecule that can leave the nucleus and be translated.

Evolutionary biologists have observed variation in the average age and size of mature individuals in a population of small fresh
Molodets [167]

Answer:

C. After many generations, the offspring of the introduced guppies with mature at an older age and larger size because of selective pressure from the new predator.

Explanation:

In the above scenario evolutionary biologists found variation in guppies with average age and size due to selective pressure from the predators including pike cichlids and killifish. As cichlids preys larger guppies primarily and killifish preys smaller guppies but with killifish, it has been found that guppies reproduced at older age and larger at maturity.

So, because of selective pressure, the new generation of guppies will be mature at an older age with increase in size.
