The President George Washington warned against two things to the people of United States. First was permitting too much trade with European powers and creating diplomatic relations with new nations.

George Washington dedicated major part of his farewell speech discussing about Foreign Relations. He advocated the policy of good faith towards all nations. He said that United States should keep on working with good faith for other nations keeping their Morality in mind. He stated that United States should avoid long time revelry with other nations. He said that unwanted revelry with other nations may lead to war and can damage Economy of United States. He further stated that alliances of United States can draw them towards war which may be of no profit or no justification for them and not just support any of their allies just because they are allies of United States. He also warned the people of United States of not to be too involved in European trade and politics as Europe then was an isolated country and it would not benefit United States in any manner. He also stated that United States should review the permanent allies of the country time to time depending on the situation of the government of the alliance country. He advocated the policy of ‘Free Trade’ with all nations and stated that the free trade policy will benefit economy of United States to the great extent.
