The woodworking artist spends <u>3 hours</u> making each <u>type X </u>carving, and <u>2 hours</u> making each <u>type Y </u>carving. He can <u>spend up to(maximum) 36 hours</u> each week making carvings.

3x + 2y ≤ 36

He can spend no more than 36 hours on making carvings each week.

It costs him <u>$4 for each type X, $5 for each type Y.</u> He must keep his weekly cost for materials <u>to $100 or less</u>.

4x + 5y ≤ 100

He can spend no more than $100 on materials.

Have you ever seen rational exponents? Rational exponents are designed to fit within the properties of exponents. That is, (31/2
mixas84 [53]

Rational exponents are quite simple really.  For instance, 2 to the power of 1/2 is the square root of two.  You take the numerator of the fraction and use that as the exponent and take the denominator and use it to root the number.  I know that sounds confusing, so I'll give a bunch of examples

2 to the power of 1/3

is the cube root of 2

2 to the power of 2/3

is the cube root of 2 to the power of 2, or the cube root of 4

2 to the power of 3/4

Is the 4th root of 2 to the power of 3, or the fourth root of 8

Hope it helps <3, if you have any questions just comment.

How do I factor (x^2 + 1)^1/2 +2(x^2 + 1)^1/2
professor190 [17]
(x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}} + 2((x^{2} + 1)^{ -\frac{1}{2}}) \\\\ Take \ out \ (x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}} \ like \ so: \\\\ (x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}(1 + 2(x^{2} + 1)^{ -1}) \\\\ = (x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}(1 + \frac{2}{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)}) \\\\ = (x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}(\frac{2 \ + \ (x^{2} \ + \ 1)}{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)}) \\\\ = (x^{2} + 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}(\frac{(x^{2} \ + \ 3)}{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)}) \\\\ = \frac{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}(x^{2} \ + \ 3)}{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)} \\\\
This is what I would think to do with such an expression;
It should be alright to leave it as it is on the last line as this should be its simplest form;
But, you could write it out as:
\frac{(x^{2} \ + \ 3)}{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)^{ \frac{1}{2}}} \\\\&#10;= \frac{(x^{2} \ + \ 3)}{ \sqrt{(x^{2} \ + \ 1)}}
