I personally would choose the board game fundraising
Even though this not applicable for all, the large majority of book readers belong to the introvert personality side.
Because of this, activities that made into fundraising should be something that appealing to introverts in General (which definitely acceptable by extroverts since they basically good in all social situations), such as board game fundraising.

Novels are usually quite long, and you don't have to limit yourself to any number of words, whereas with short stories, you have to think about how many words you will use, and use them effectively.
