Kevin is 3 years older than Daniel. Two years ago, Kevin was 4 times as old as Daniel.
Allisa [31]

Let, the age of Daniel be x years and Kevin be y years.

Given, Kevin is 3 years older than Daniel.

So we can write the equation as y=x+3

Also given, 2 years ago Kevin was 4 times as old as Daniel.

2 years ago, Daniel's age = (x-2) years

2 years ago, Kevin's age = (y-2) years.

So we can write the equation as (y-2) = 4(x-2)

We have got the two equations

y = x+3 ..... equation 1

(y-2) = 4(x-2) ..... equation 2

Now we are plugging in the value of y from equation 1 to equation 2

x+3-2 = 4(x-2)

x+1 = 4(x-2)

Now we have to distribute 4 in the right side.

x+1 = 4x -8

We will have to take x in one side. so let's move 4x to the left side by subtracting it to both sides.

x -4x+1 = 4x-4x -8

-3x+1 = 0-8

-3x+1 = -8

Now we have to move 1 to the right side by subtracting 1 from both sides.

-3x +1 -1 = -8-1

-3x+0 = -9

-3x = -9

Now we can get x by moving -3 to the right side. As -3 is multiplied there so we can move it by dividing both sides by -3.

-3x/-3 = -9/-3

x = 3

So we have got the required answer. Daniel is 3 years old.

Cost of ribeye steak dinner is $19.058

Cost of grilled salmon dinner is $14.88

Solution:

Let x be the ribeye steak dinner and y be the grilled salmon dinner.

Write the given equation in the algebraic form.

First day sold:

15x + 21 y = 598.34 – – – – (1)

Second day sold:

25x + 7y = 580.61 – – – – (2)

To solve these equations by elimination method.

Multiply equation (2) by 3, we get

75x + 21y = 1741.83 – – – – (3)

Now, subtract equation (1) from equation (3).

75x + 21y – (15x + 21y)= 1741.83 – 598.34

75x + 21y – 15x – 21y = 1143.49

60x = 1143.49

Divide by 60 on both sides of the equation.

x = 19.058

Substitute x value in equation (2), we get

25(19.058) + 7y = 580.61

476.45 + 7y = 580.61

Subtract 476.45 on  both sides of the equation.

7y = 104.16

Divide by 7 on both sides of the equation.

y = 14.88

Cost of ribeye steak dinner is $19.058

Cost of grilled salmon dinner is $14.88.

Jamie purchased a DVD that was on sale for 15% off. The sales tax in her county is 5%. Let y represent the original price of the
damaskus [11]

Answer: Option 'D' is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Sale off = 15%

Rate of sales tax = 5%

Let y be the original price of the DVD.

Amount of sales tax would be

\dfrac{5}{100}\times y\\\\=0.05y

Amount after tax would be

y + 0.05 y = 1.05y

Now, there is off of 15%, so final cost of the DVD would be

\dfrac{100-15}{100}\times 1.05y\\\\=\dfrac{85}{100}\times 1.05y\\\\=0.85(1.05y)

Hence, Option 'D' is correct.

Explain one way to verify that the corresponding angles of the two triangles are congruent.
Burka [1]

Answer:

C.Use the distance formula to prove that all corresponding sides of the triangles have same lengths.Therefore, the two triangles are congruent by SSS.Then , corresponding angles of the triangles are congruent by CPCTC.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to explain one way through which we can verify that the corresponding angles of the two triangles are congruent.

A. Use the slope formula to prove that the slopes of corresponding sides are opposite reciprocals . Therefore, the corresponding angles of the triangles are congruent.

In this option we are given that by slopes formula the slopes of corresponding sides are opposite reciprocals .It means sides are perpendicular but not give any information about congruency of two triangles through which we can say corresponding angles of two triangles are congruent.Hence, it is false.

B.Use the distance formula to prove that two corresponding sides of the triangles have same lengths. Therefore, corresponding angles of the triangles are congruent by CPCTC.

In this option we are given information about only two corresponding sides of two triangles . It is not sufficient to prove that corresponding angles of two triangles are congruent.Hence, it is false.

C.Use the distance formula to prove that all corresponding sides of the triangles have same lengths.Therefore,the two triangles are congruent by SSS. Then, corresponding angles of the triangles are congruent by CPCTC.

In this option we have complete information through which we can verify that corresponding angles of two triangles are congruent.Hence, it is correct.

D.Use the distance formula to prove that two corresponding sides of the triangles have same lengths.Therefore, the two triangles are congruent by SAS.Then, all corresponding angles of the triangles are congruent.

In this option we have no complete information through which we can two triangles are congruent by SAS. Therefore, In this option  explaination are not given properly.Hence , it is false.
