6CO₂ + 6H₂O ⇒ C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

From the reaction above, the CO₂ (with water) is taken in during photosynthesis to produce glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆). The usage of CO₂ by plants assist in removing it from the atmosphere.

CO₂ can dissolve in water to form carbonic acid (H₂CO₃). Based on this principle, ocean water also dissolves CO₂ from the air when air comes in contact with the ocean water.
