Answer:

<u>1. Type of function</u>: absolute value function

<u>2. The three transformations from the parent function f(x) = |x| are</u>:

  • Translation 3 units to the left
  • Vertical stretch with a scale factor of 2
  • Translation 5 units downward

Explanation:

<u>1. Type of function</u>

The parent function |x| is the absolute value function. It returns the positive value of the argument (x).

Thus the function f(x) = 2|x + 3| - 5 is also an absolute value function.

It returns the positive value of x + 3, then multiplyes it by 2, and finally subtract 5.

This is a piecewise function.

For the values of x ≥ - 3, the output is 2(x +3) - 5 = 2x + 6 - 5 = 2x + 1.

For the values of x < - 3, the output is 2 (-x - 3) - 5 = -2x - 6 - 5 = -2x - 11.

The vertex of this function is at x = - 3: 2 (- 3 + 3) - 5 = 2(0) - 5 = 0 - 5 = 5.

Thus the vertex is (-3, 5).

<u>2. Transformations from the parent function f(x) = |x|</u>.

When you know the parent function and the daughter function you can know the transformations done of the former to get the later by some simple rules.

a)<u> Translation in the horizontal direction</u>.

When you add a positive value to the argument the function is translated to the left.

Thus, when you add 3 to x, |x| becomes |x + 3| and it is a translation 3 units to the left.

b) <u>Vertical stretch</u>

When you multiply the argument by a constant, the function stretches vertically.

Thus, when you multiply |x + 3| by 2, to get 2|x + 3|, the function is vertically stretched by a scale factor of 2.

c) <u>Vertical translation</u>

When you subtract a constant value from the function, you translate it downward.

Thus, when you subtract 5 from 2|x + 3| - 5, you translate the function 5 units downward.

11 relaxing after work. the 2010 general social survey asked the question: "after an average work day, about how many hours do y
Bogdan [553]
A confidence interval tells us how many percents we are confident about the range of a parameter. In this problem, <span>a 95% confidence interval for the mean number of hours spent relaxing or pursuing activities they enjoy was (1.38, 1.92). That means we're 95% confident that the Americans spend from 1.38 hours to 1.92 hours per day on average relaxing or pursuing activities they enjoy. In other words, 95% of the samples of the same size would have a mean number of hours relaxing or pursuing activities they enjoy between 1.38 to 1.92.</span>

Solve x'=5t(sqrt(x)) x(0)=1
LekaFEV [45]

Answer:

2\sqrt{x}=\frac{5t^2}{2}+2

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: \frac{\mathrm{d} x}{\mathrm{d} t}=5t\sqrt{x}\,,\, x(0)=1

Solution:

A differential equation is said to be separable if it can be written separately as  functions of two variables.

Given equation is separable.

We can write this equation as follows:

\frac{dx}{\sqrt{x}}=5t\,dt

On integrating both sides, we get

\int \frac{dx}{\sqrt{x}}=\int 5t\,dt

Formulae Used:

\int \frac{1}{\sqrt{x}}=2\sqrt{x}\,\,,\,\,\int t\,dt=\frac{t^2}{2}

So, we get solution as 2\sqrt{x}=\frac{5t^2}{2}+C

Applying condition: x(0) = 1, we get C=2

Therefore, 2\sqrt{x}=\frac{5t^2}{2}+2

Henry Is six more than two times as old as Cheryl in 10 years plus some of their age will be 77 how old is Cheryl now
hoa [83]

Cheryl is 17 years old now.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

Age of Cheryl = x

Age of Henry = 2x+6

In 10 years;

Cheryl's age = x+10

Henry's age = 2x+6+10 = 2x+16

The sum of ages is 77.

(x+10)+(2x+16)=77\\x+10+2x+16=77\\3x+26=77\\3x=77-26\\3x=51

Dividing both sides by 3

\frac{3x}{3}=\frac{51}{3}\\x=17

Age of Cheryl = 17 years

Age of Henry = 2x+6 = 2(17)+6 = 34+6 = 40 years

Cheryl is 17 years old now.
