Oedipus is often seen as a tragic hero due to the various tragic flaws he possesses. What exactly, though, are those tragic flaw
nadezda [96]

Oedipus was thrown away by his parents on his third day of life because it was told that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He didn’t die because instead of throwing the baby, a shepherd pitied him.

He grows up in Corinth but runs away from there thinking that he would prevent his fate from becoming reality.

Oedipus becomes a good king, he is concerned about the welfare of his people and treats them as “my children”, this makes the audience like him, he is a fair man even with the weight of his fate on his shoulders.

The major flaw (harmatia) of Oedipus is pride. Even though he is a good man with morals, his pride blinds him. His pride makes he think that when ran away from Corinth his destiny wouldn’t turn into reality.

He is sure he can control his destiny and all the odds and this is his downfall.

Oedipus is considered a hero because he is weak before the forces of his destiny, he thinks he can control everything and considers himself stronger than the gods that set out his destiny. The irony is that he’s done exactly what the gods needed so the prophecy came to reality.

Answer:

Here are four different paragraphs regarding Hernan Cortez.

Explanation:

When Cortés finally sailed for the coast of Yucatán on February 18, 1519, he had 11 ships, 508 soldiers, about 100 sailors, andâmost importantâ16 horses. In March 1519 he landed at Tabasco, where he stayed for a time in order to gain intelligence from the local Indians. He won them over and received presents from them, including 20 women, one of whom, Marina (âMalincheâ), became his mistress and interpreter and bore him a son, Martín. Cortés sailed to another spot on the southeastern Mexican coast and founded Veracruz, mainly to have himself elected captain general and chief justice by his soldiers as citizens, thus shaking off the authority of Velázquez. On the mainland Cortés did what no other expedition leader had done: he exercised and disciplined his army, welding it into a cohesive force. But the ultimate expression of his determination to deal with disaffection occurred when he sank his ships.

In 1504, Cortés left Spain to seek his fortune in New World. He traveled to the island of Santo Domingo, or Hispaniola. Settling in the new town of Azúa, Cortés served as a notary for several years. He joined an expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velázquez in 1511. There, Cortés worked in the civil government and served as the mayor of Santiago for a time.

After his victory over the Aztecs, Cortés faced challenges to his authority and position. He traveled to Honduras in 1524 to stop a rebellion against him in the area. Back in Mexico, Cortés found himself removed from power. He traveled to Spain to plead his case to the king, but he was not reappointed to his governorship.

When Cortes arrived at Tenochtitlan on November 8, 1519 he was welcomed by the Aztec Emperor Montezuma II. Although Montezuma did not trust Cortes, he thought that Cortes might be the god Quetzalcoatl in human form. Montezuma gave Cortes and his men gifts of gold. He thought that these gifts would keep Cortes from taking over the city, but they just made Cortes want more.
