In 1991 the goal of the US and its allies in the Persian Gulf was to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi forces. They were concerned with Saddam Hussein possibly taking over the massive Kuwaiti oil fields. The threat of Saddam gaining control of the oil fields would have spelled disaster for the US. We needed those fields for our own consumption. We didn't have the reserves that we have today.

The primary goal of the Gulf War in 1991 was the liberate Kuwait from Iraqi forces.  Saddam Husein refused to withdraw from Kuwait after invading the country in 1990.  Operation Desert Storm was the US led air attack that lasted for 42 days.  President Bush declared a cease fire.  The majority of the Iraqi forces fled before the cease fire.

Why didn’t socialism take off in England as it did in Germany and other industrialized countries?
matrenka [14]

Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives. Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally.
