3/4x - 4= 1/2
add 4 to both sides
3/4x= 4 1/2
change 4 1/2 to improper fraction
3/4x= 9/2
divide both sides by 3/4
x= 9/2 ÷ 3/4
multiply by inverse of 3/4
x= 9/2 * 4/3
x= (9*4)/(2*3)
x= 36/6
x= 6

CHECK
3/4x - 4= 1/2
3/4(6) - 4= 1/2
18/4 - 4= 1/2
4 2/4 - 4= 1/2
4 1/2 - 4= 1/2
1/2= 1/2
