Explanation:

The 36° 30′ North parallel is an imaginary line located thirty-six and a half degrees north of the Equator line. It represents a latitude that assumed particular importance for US history because it was the boundary adopted in the Missouri Compromise that, in 1820, divided the country between pro-slavery states and those that repelled slavery.

The deal divided the states east of the Mississippi River, except for Missouri to the north, where those south of the parallel line would maintain the use of black slave labor.

When the war ended, in December of 1898, Spain had lost all its control over the territories of Puerto Rico, Cuba, The Philippines Islands, and Guam, with some smaller islands as well.

The War ended with the ratification of the Treaty of Paris, that was signed  on December 10th, 1898.
