Back in the day they didn't have any of that they had no phones no headphones they were lucky if they got anything at all they had to hunt and kill with their bare hands and with guns while today we can drive to the supermarket and get meat in some plastic that is from a cow kept in confindment. Their food was fresh meat and veggies as well as fruit they had it good and their wars were not as bad as ours today ours has cannons and grenades their had guns, knives, and bows and arrows which were not as lethal unless you knew what you were doing.
1) some stories are interesting so decrease of boredom
2) increase in imagination and creativity
3) some of the stories could teach the reader a moral or two
