Answer:

Explanation:

DNA polymerase is an enzyme that helps in the synthesis of new strands of DNA. It is found in both prokaryote and eukaryotes. In prokaryotes, there are 3 types of DNA polymerase and more DNA polymerase found in eukaryotes.

The 3 types of DNA polymerase are DNA polymerase I, DNA polymerase II, DNA polymerase III. The DNA pol I and DNA pol II helps in DNA repair rather than DNA replication. The DNA pol III is the major enzyme that initiates the replication.

DNA polymerase III is a multisubunit enzyme that functions as a dimer of these multiple subunits. The DNA polymerase enzyme has 3 significant enzymatic activities -

All DNA polymerase direct the synthesis of DNA from 3' to 5' end.

It possesses 3' to 5' exonuclease activity. It also helps in proofreading activity by replacing the incorrect nucleotides with the correct base sequence.

Some DNA polymerase has a 5' to 3' exonuclease activity. It is found in the lagging strand.

DNA polymerase is not able to initiate DNA synthesis alone. They need a free 3' end, where the enzyme can add new nucleotides. It means they require 2 primers to initiate the DNA replication in both the direction.

The strands act as complementary to the DNA polymerase. The DNA polymerase adds new strands continuously in 5' to 3' direction in the leading strand. While in lagging strand short fragments of DNA formed. Later they attached by DNA ligase.

DNA polymerase also needs RNA polymerase in some cases to start replication. Such a process is called reverse transcription.

In Experiment 5, how did the shape of the epidermal cells in the outer skin surface slide compare to the shape of the epidermal
Phoenix [80]

Answer:

The correct answer is B. The cells in the outer skin surface appeared flat, whereas the cells in the cross section were not flat.

Explanation:

The epidermis is made up of five cell layers, which have different functions: Stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum.

 • Stratum basale is the innermost germinative, single, basal layer of the epidermis composed of basal cuboidal-shaped cells. These cells are the precursor of keratinocytes, this is why this layer is also called germinativum. In this basal layer, there are also Merkel cells as well as melanocytes.
 • Stratum spinosum refers to the keratinocytes which produce keratin.
 • Stratum granulosum, this is the layer where keratinization begins. Cells produce hard granules that change to keratin and lipids as they ascend.
 • Stratum lucidum is conformed of densely compressed cells, which begins to flatten and appear indistinguishable between each other.
 • Stratum corneum is the most external layer, composed of dead, flattened cells which are released regularly in a process known as desquamation.

In a population of white and brown rats, 16% of the population is white. if white hair is recessive to brown, what frequency of
shutvik [7]

0.36

Explanation:

For the recessive trait to show in the phenotype, the individual has to be homozygous recessive for the gene. Therefore if we designate the allele for White color as r and that of Brown as R;

rr = 16% = 0.16 → This is the gene frequency for recessive population

To find the allele frequency

√0.16

= 0.4

Remember the hardy Weinberg principle of allele; All allelic frequency of a gene adds up to 1 in an ideal population (that observes certain assumptions).

p + q = 1

p + 0.4 = 1

p = 1 – 0.4

p = 0.6

The allelic frequency of Brown hair is 0.6.

The frequency of individuals of a homozygous dominant genotype will be;

P² + 2pq + q² = 1

0.6 * 0.6 = 0.36
